The Mexican War

The Mexican War began April 25, 1846 and ended February 2, 1848, during the presidency of James K. Polk  The war was fought for territorial expansion.  America gained 500,000 sq. miles of Mexican territory including the future states of California, Nevada, Utah most of New Mexico and Arizona and parts of Wyoming, Colorado and Texas. The border for Mexico then became the Rio Grande River.
