"Alice Woodruff Sanders"

Alice Woodruff Sanders, daughter of Dan and Mary Woodruff, one of McLeansboro's most highly respected women died at her home in McLeansboro, Illinois, August 18, 1939.  she was born  September 15, 1856 and passed away at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 4 days.  She spent her entire life in this community.  On April 4, 1877, she was united in marriage to Addison Sanders.  To this union was born eight chilren, two, Pearl and Julia have preceded her in death.  Her husband passed away several years ago.  The following children are left to mourn her going.  Will, Bert, Earl, Mrs. Anna McDaniel and Lena Little of McLeansboro, Ill. and Frank of Bloomington, Ill.  Besides her children she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Molly Cook and Mrs. Anna Gale of East St. Louis, Ill., three half brothers, Charles, Dan and George of McLeansboro, Illinois, 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.  One brother, Tom Woodruff preceded her in death.

She was indeed a child of God and expressed her faith in her savior until the 

last.  She has left her assurance that she has gone to rest.  She was a devoted mother and housewife.  Her interests were entirely with her family and her home, seldom leaving it even before her illness, which had kept her confined for recent years.

"Remember me as you pass by,
 As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, you soon will be,
     Prepare for death and follow me."

Funeral services at Sanders Funeral Home Sunday, August 20, Rev. Charles Turrer officiated.  Sanders Funeral Home in charge.  Interment in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
