John Canterbury

John Canterbury was born August 6th, 1849 in the state of Missouri and departed this life very suddenly of heart failure Thursday morning December 6, 1917 at his home near Thackery at the age of 68 years and 4 months.

August 6, 1867, he married Mary York and they fought the battle of life together for over 50 years; their home being blessed with eleven children, six of these have preceded him to the great beyond, four dying in infancy, Arthur at the age of eight and Belle at the age of thirty-four, leaving Gerome of Carmi, Minda (now Mrs. Wilburn) of Thackery, Rufus who lives at Eldorado, Harvey who lived with his father and Nellie (now Mrs. Carter) of Springerton.  Besides the children he is survived by a loving companion, eighteen grand-children and a host of friends and acquaintances who mourn his departure.

The funeral services were conducted at the house Saturday at 2 o'clock p.m., by Eld. John Maulding and interment was at New Hope cemetery.  The family have the sympathy of the entire community.
