Bertha Tate Gray

Mrs. Bertha Tate Gray, daughter of William W. and Martha Tate, was born in Saline County, Illinois, February 16, 1851; departed this life December 1, 1937, age 86 years, 9 months and 15 days.

She was united in marriage to Hughey B. Gray on February 11, 1877.  To this union three children were born, two daughters, Mrs. Roxey Lamkin and Miss Lockie Gray, one son, Wayne Gray.

She was converted early in life and united with the Oak Grove Methodist Church, where she remained a faithful member until death.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother, always trying to render service for those whom she loved.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her aged companion, H. B. Gray; two daughters, Mrs. Roxey Lamkin of Galatia, Ill., Lockie Gray at home; one son, Wayne Gray of Broughton, Ill.; four granddaughters, Mrs. Alta Pemberton of Galatia, Ill., Miss Wilma Lamkin of Kankakee, Ill., Miss Imogene Lamkin of Galatia, Ill., Miss Ruth Gray of Broughton, Ill.; one grandson, Arthur Lamkin of Broughton, Ill.; one stebrother, Oscar A. Tate of Galatia, Ill., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at Tate's Chapel on December 2, at 11 a.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. Medreith of Stonefort, Ill.  Interment took place in the cemetery nearby.
