Dennis Kennedy

(1859-1930)

From: McLeansboro Times, August 14, 1930

Dennis Kennedy, son of  William and Nancy Kennedy, was born December 28, 1859, and departed this life August 7, 1930, aged 70 years, 7 months and 11 days.

He was united in marriage to Isabelle Stephens October 27, 1885.  This union was blessed with eight children, two of whom preceded him to the great beyond, Laurena, who died in infancy, and Loren, who passed away four years ago.

Those who survive are Clara Osborn of Belle Prairie, Chloe Ann Sefried of Chicago, Orvell R. of Arcola, Noma Sexton of Long Prairie, Veneta Shull of Kankakee, and Virginia of Chicago.

He also leaves one half brother, George Hall, of Carmi, Ill., seven grandchildren, and his loving companion, who stood by his side through the forty-four years of joy and sorrow and was with him until the Master made the final summons, "Come Home."  The children were all at the bedside when the end came.

His three score and ten years were spent near the place of his birth.  He was a loving and kind companion and father.  He was converted in early manhood, but never untied with any church.  He was always in close touch with his Master and often spoke of his loving guidance and of how prayer was strength to fight the battle of life.

We'll miss you daddy dearest, Your love and council took But we'll treasure your sweet memory, Till we meet up there with you.

Funeral services were conducted at Belle Prairie Baptist Church by Elder B. E. Page.  Interment in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Dahlgren.
