STANDEFER, ISAAC (1801-1855). Isaac Standefer, chief justice and county commissioner of Milam County, third son of William and Jemimah (Jones) Standefer, was born in Marion County, Tennessee, on October 13, 1801. After the death of his first wife, Elizabeth, Standefer married Dorcas Jones, with whom he immigrated to Texas in 1837. They settled in what is now Milam County, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. On April 4, 1840, Standefer was one of the commissioners appointed by the Texas legislature to locate the county seat. He was elected justice of the peace on February 6, 1843, and held this office until his election as chief justice of Milam County on July 13, 1846. On April 9, 1853, he was elected county commissioner. He held this until his death on November 6, 1855.
